Anxious or Phobic Patients
If you've had a negative experience at the dentist in the past, it’s understandable to feel nervous. Our sedation options allow you to relax completely—even during complex or lengthy procedures—while staying conscious and responsive. Many of our patients report feeling no memory of the treatment afterwards.
-
Children and Adults Who Struggle With Dental Procedures
Dental anxiety can affect anyone, at any age. Whether it’s your child’s first dental extraction or you’ve avoided dental visits for years, our compassionate team, alongside our Consultant Anaesthetist, ensures you or your child are cared for in a calm, reassuring environment.

Patients Requiring Complex or Lengthy Treatments
Procedures like wisdom tooth removal, multiple extractions, or deep cleaning can take time and may feel uncomfortable under local anaesthetic alone. Sedation enables us to complete treatment efficiently—often in fewer visits—while you remain deeply relaxed.
-
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth are commonly removed when they are impacted, partially erupted, or causing crowding, pain, or infection. For many patients, the idea of this procedure can cause significant anxiety—especially when local anaesthetic alone feels overwhelming or insufficient. With sedation, wisdom tooth removal becomes a much more manageable experience. You’ll remain relaxed and at ease throughout the procedure, often with little memory of it afterwards. This approach is especially helpful for patients needing surgical extractions or multiple teeth removed in one visit.

Individuals With a Strong Gag Reflex or Underlying Medical Conditions
For some, a strong gag reflex, jaw discomfort, or certain health conditions make traditional dental care difficult. Sedation helps reduce muscle tension, suppresses the gag reflex, and allows the dentist to carry out treatment more smoothly and effectively.
ABOUT Dr Jonathan Bilmen - Consultant Anaesthetist
I am a consultant anaesthetist based at Leeds Teaching Hospitals with special interest in procedural sedation. I have 18 years of anaesthetic experience and as an advanced airway anaesthetist, I am exemplary at manipulating and securing airways in difficult patients, which is a core skill in delivering sedation for patients undergoing dental procedures. As an anaesthetist, I have access to a wide variety of drugs which I can use to give patients optimal sedation and create ideal conditions for their dental procedures. With my experience, I can ensure the highest quality and safety that any patient can hope for when requiring dental sedation. I have an excellent track record in providing sedation to dental patients, having delivered hundreds of sedation episodes over the last 5 years in the community setting. Having an anaesthetist focussing solely on sedation whilst the dentist performs the procedure means that you get the undivided attention of two individuals focussing on two critical areas at the same time. The anaesthetist will ensure that your sedation is adequate and that you are safe. The dentist can then perform the procedure knowing they do not have to worry about the patient’s wellbeing, as it is in the safe hands of the anaesthetist. This is a significant advantage over the single dentist/sedation provider who is trying to perform the dental procedure whilst giving the patient high quality sedation. In the single person model, the clinician has a divided attention, with neither necessarily getting the focus it deserves or requires.

Specialist Wisdom Tooth Removal Under Sedation
Wisdom tooth extractions — particularly impacted or partially erupted cases — can be technically demanding and distressing for patients. For those who are unable to tolerate treatment under local anaesthetic or have declined previous care due to fear or discomfort.
At Advance Dental Care, this service is delivered by a Consultant Anaesthetist with over 18 years of experience in hospital-grade sedation. This means patients receive the highest standard of care, with the added comfort of a familiar clinic environment.
Sedation enables patients to undergo wisdom tooth removal in a relaxed, controlled state, with reduced anxiety, minimal pain, and little to no memory of the procedure. For referring dentists, it offers a trusted solution for managing complex cases — without compromising continuity of care.
