Why choose Advance Dental Care for your Orthodontic Treatment?
Orthodontics is a sub-speciality of dentistry. All dentists receive undergraduate training in orthodontics however specialist orthodontists can perform all aspects of treatment.
An orthodontic specialist is well positioned to consider both function and appearance of teeth. Different clinicians may approach orthodontic treatment according to their training and experience. We like to make sure appearance isn’t at the compromise of function, and that both factors are well considered.
At Advance Dental Care, orthodontic treatment is led by specialist orthodontist Dr Majid Salas, providing patients with the reassurance of experienced, specialist-led care.
Specialist orthodontists have an in-depth knowledge of the mechanics of tooth movement, meaning they can deal with simple and complex cases. Orthodontic specialists understand how teeth, jaws, and facial structures respond to carefully controlled movement. By applying precise forces at the right stage of treatment, they aim to move teeth predictably, comfortably, and safely while supporting long-term stability.
When considering orthodontic treatment, it is natural to think about factors such as treatment time, cost, and appliance type. However, successful results also depend on accurate diagnosis, detailed planning, and selecting the most suitable approach for your bite, smile goals, and oral health. Specialist-led care looks at the full picture from your first consultation through to your final retainer.
The additional years of advanced training required to become a specialist orthodontist reflect a strong commitment to clinical excellence. This extra expertise helps support personalised treatment planning, high standards of care, and treatment planned with long-term stability in mind.
All dentists learn the basics of orthodontics during their undergraduate education or can undergo part time postgraduate courses (such as a diploma).
In order to become a specialist, you must attend 5 years of undergraduate education followed by 3 years in a full time program and undertake examinations to prove your ability to handle complex cases. In the case of Dr Majid Salas, he has over 20 years of clinical experience in orthodontics.
Things to consider when choosing who does your orthodontic care:
- How much experience have they had?
- Would they know how to handle it if things weren’t going to plan?
- Do they have the knowledge and skills to plan for good function/bite as well as a good final appearance?
In some cases, patients may be referred to orthodontic specialists when treatment is more complex or requires advanced planning.
We believe patients benefit from specialist-led care from the outset where appropriate.
Specialist orthodontists are able to provide a wide range of treatment options tailored to individual patient needs.
